Flash for browsers on mobile phones and tablet computers will no longer be developed, according to the software’s creator Adobe.

The technology has been used for websites for a number of years, and with many internet users spending more time browsing on mobile devices, Adobe had been working to create software to allow users to view Flash websites whilst on the move despite being met with opposition from key players in the mobile device industry.

In a very public war of words, the late Apple boss Steve Jobs had dismissed the idea of using Flash for their devices. Back in April 2010, he published an open letter to the company announcing all the reasons why Apple devices would not support Flash.

In the letter, Jobs said that Flash drains the battery of mobile devices, is not very useful with touch-screen software and also has a number of security and reliability flaws. He finished by saying that Flash was something for the PC era and the company should instead focus on HTML 5.

The announcement that Flash will no longer be developed for mobile devices is accompanied with news that the company will instead work on HTML 5 and app development which could be seen as a victory for Apple.

More businesses than ever are creating their own mobile apps to meet the requirements of consumers, from apps allowing users to purchase goods from their device whilst on the go, to games which reinforce the brand identity. Ecommerce on mobile phones is dramatically increasing in popularity so more companies are looking for a multi service ecommerce agency to assist with the creation of both mobile apps and Magento ecommerce web design, so if your business isn’t utilising this new software you could be missing out on valuable business which instead will go to your competitors.
